Migrante: Se refiere a la persona que migra, a aquel sujeto que abandona el lugar en el que habita y que llega a otra parte, para radicarse y constituir se hogar en él.
Emigrante: Se refiere a la persona que emigra, a aquella que se traslada del lugar donde tiene establecido su hogar (pueblo, ciudad, país), para establecerse en otro.
Inmigrante: Se refiere a una persona que deja su país natal y se va para otro, para radicarse en él.
En palabras simples, migrante hace referencia a inmigrantes y emigrantes, inmigrante hace referencia a la persona que ingresa al país, y emigrante se le llama a la persona que sale del país.

Los inmigrantes aportan de distintas maneras y en distintos ámbitos, entre estos los siguientes:
COSTUMBRES: Los inmigrantes llevan otro modo de vida o creencia , manifestaciones culturales, los chilenos conocen y disfrutan de las comidas y costumbres de otros países.
AGRICULTURA : El 45% de emigrantes llegados en la provincia de Melipilla trabajan en la agricultura . Porcentaje que equivale a mas del doble de los del sector representa , esto ayuda a al crecimiento laboral de la provincia.
ECONOMIA: Pagando impuestos, generando trabajos, entre otros.
GASTRONOMIA: Al venir de otras culturas y países, los inmigrantes traen consigo diversidad de ingredientes y recetas, los cuales podemos ver en la gran cantidad de restaurantes de comida extranjera.
