Ley 21.020 SOBRE TENENCIA RESPONSABLE DE MASCOTAS Y ANIMALES DE COMPAÑÍA
La ley cholito establece que toda persona que tenga una mascota debe cuidarla, protegerla, alimentarla, darle un buen hogar y atención veterinaria.
Prohíbe el abandono y el maltrato, aplicando multas e incluso carcel para quienes no cumplan la ley.
En el caso de perros peligrosos hay medidas para ello, como por ejemplo un bozal para la mascota y la municipalidad es la encargada de promover la tenencia responsable.
La popularmente conocida Ley Cholito nació a raíz de una brutal golpiza que sufrió un perro callejero a inicios de 2017 en el barrio de Patronato en Recoleta, lo cual movilizó a una gran cantidad de personas que por redes sociales comenzaron a solicitar pena de cárcel para los autores del abuso.

Desde el año 2009 Chile cuenta con la Ley Nº 20.380 sobre Protección de los Animales y tres reglamentos complementarios, cuya aplicación es fiscalizada por el SAG, autoridad competente en este tema. Éstos son:

La ley se creo con el fin de establecer principios para el cuidado y protección de los animales reconociendo su valor intrínseco y la necesidad de evitarles sufrimiento, fomentar la tenencia responsable y prevenir el maltrato y la crueldad en animales.

Denuncia el maltrato animal!
¿Cómo hacer una denuncia por maltrato animal en Comisaría Virtual?
1. Ingresa a www.comisariavirtual.cl. Esto lo puedes hacer desde un computador o teléfono con internet.
2. Haz clic en “Inicia tus trámites” y selecciona “denuncias”.
Desliza por la página hasta que encuentres donde dice “MALTRATO ANIMAL”.
3. Ingresa con tu Clave Única, y accede al formulario. Deberás ingresar la siguiente información:

El modo del ataque (si fue con arma cortopunzante, arma de fuego, golpes, golpes con objetos o abandono del animal)

How to file a report for animal abuse at the Virtual Police Station?
1. Go to www.comisariavirtual.cl. You can do this from a computer or phone with internet access.

3. Enter your Unique Code and access the form. You must enter the following information:
The type of animal

The date and time of the crime

You may attach evidence, such as images (optional).
